Calliope River outfall accommodates one wastewater treatment plant (Gladstone or known as Calliope River WWTP), which serves the areas of Gladstone Central, Barney Point, Toolooa, Sun Valley, Telina, Kin Kora, New Auckland, Clintan, Callemondah, Calliope and West Gladstone. The plant discharges daily 10 ML of treated effluent to Calliope River at 2.5 km AMTD located next to the holding pond.
